9/21/2023 0 Comments Tengami reviewsBy simply touching an area on the GamePad screen we will make our samurai move in the direction indicated when it comes to having to change location, a swipe will suffice to “turn the page”. Tengami's gameplay is implemented completely through the touch screen of the GamePad and the title turns out to be perfect to be enjoyed in off-TV mode, perhaps with the help of a good pair of headphones. The various sections of the game are interspersed with short haiku-style poems, which set the tone of the adventure, even if the kind of experience that Tengami can offer the player is much more visual than narrative. There is no real story in the game: we will find ourselves in the shoes of a samurai, who will have to embark on a journey to bring the fallen flowers back to a bare sakura tree, the typical Japanese cherry tree, bringing it back to its ancient splendor and therefore, metaphorically, to life. The graphics are therefore reminiscent of the particular 2D and 3D mix of the titles of the Paper Mario series, even if the finely watercolored style inspired by ancient Japan helps to give Tengami its strong and particular personality. The game world of Tengami is in fact that of a pop-up book in which buildings, trees, mountains, bridges are nothing more than particular origami that protrude from the surface of the book. Tengami aims first of all that visual experience: we are faced with a puzzle adventure game set in medieval Japan, made with a particular graphic style. Originally released last February on iOS, the title now sees new light with a re-release on Wii U (released last November 13) and on PC (coming next November 28th). If a relaxing, meditative journey on your phone or tablet sounds appealing, there’s every reason to experience this tale for yourself.Keep me is the first title of the British indie team Nyamyam, consisting of Ryo Agarie, Jennifer Schneidereit and Phil Tossel, three former Rare developers. While “Tengami” ($4.99) won’t be mistaken for one of the year’s best titles, it is a welcome escape from the status quo. The player may leave wishing for more content or a greater challenge, but it’s impossible to deny the sense of gratification and peace that accompany Nyamyam’s unique style. Shortcomings and all, “Tengami” feels like an important accomplishment. The entire game can be completed in just a couple of hours, and the ease of each puzzle sometimes creates the feeling that the player is watching the story rather than driving it. Nyamyam deserves praise for creating such a magical world however, the visit doesn’t last long at all. A wolf’s lonesome howl, the reverberations of a struck bell and the soft murmur of a distant waterfall all serve as calls to mindfulness of the player’s surroundings. The pacing will certainly put off some gamers, but “Tengami” makes a conscious effort to keep players focused on every minor detail. At the end of each stage, the scene flattens over itself like the turning of a page, giving way to the next chapter.įiguring out how to manipulate the environment in order to reach the ethereal swirls of light that act as beacons is the story’s primary challenge. Players can flatten hills, unfurl bridges and raise staircases with a swipe of their finger. “Tengami” serves as an interactive pop-up book. Players guide a silent, nameless protagonist as he wanders across gurgling rivers and moonlit mountains to restore fallen cherry blossoms to a barren tree. The developer describes the visual style as one “inspired by traditional Japanese arts and crafts,” and the influence is pervasive throughout the dreamlike fantasy world. Developer Nyamyam seems entirely unconcerned with living up to established norms, presenting only the barest of plot while allowing the game’s beautiful art and calming, hypnotic soundtrack to take leading roles. Not every video game needs to be an epic adventure.Īs a point-and-click iOS puzzler, “Tengami” defies many conventions of mainstream gaming. But Jesus came to restore the harmony that was once there. He started making up his own rhythm, so that this universal dance that God set in motion at Creation can no longer be said to be harmonious. He listened to and followed the calls of a different leader. He beat out a rhythm, and all of creation-sun, moon, stars, trees, water, man, beast, and bug-danced to it, in sync with their Creator and with each other. In Eden, God established a fundamental unity between himself and man, and between man and his environment. You may have noticed that Dark Mode is becoming more and more a thing. You’ll hear this in losts of dance music. The tempo of a piece of music has a big imapct on the energy level and mood.įaster, upbeat tempos are more exciting and high-energy. Since tempo dictates the pace of music and how it is performed, it plays an important role in the flow of the rhythm. The tempo of a song measures beats per minute (BPM) so a song with 100 BPM would mean there are 100 beats being played in one minute. If you’re tapping along to the beat in a song, then how fast you are tapping is the tempo of that song. Tempo is the speed and pace of how music is performed. When it comes to emoting through instrumentals, accents play a key role. You might also hear it being used to create tension or release. This can be achieved by playing a note more loudly, longer or by placing it in a more plrominent position in the song’s arrangement.Īccents are used to create interest within a piece of music or some variation. It makes a bit more sense once you know how strong and weak beats in music work. If you are interested in using compound time and odd time in your track, you need to understand how beats within any measure are felt in twos or threes. MeterĪ meter’s music theory definition is that it refers to the rhytmic organization of music into groups of pulses or beats. The strong-weak, strong-weak-weak concept are part of how duple and triple meter work, and they form the basis for understanding compound and odd time. When you know how strong and weak beats sound in a musical measure you can hear them everywhere. Rhythm is the pattern of sounds, and the beat in rhythm, by definition, is the steady underlying pulse in a rhythm.īut at the core of feeling any rhythm, you have to understand that a musical note represents the duration of time that an instrument will be played.Ī musical note represents the duration of time that an instrument will be played.Ī whole note represents the longest playing duration but whole notes can be broken down into halves, quarters, eighths and sixteenths.Ī half note will occupy half the duration of a whole note, a quarter note will occupy a quarter of the duration of a whole note and so forth.
